Boy oh boy. Did this trailer get us excited. Ryan Gosling has decided to hide his pretty face behind the camera in his directorial debut Lost River. But, contrary to what you may first think, losing his punim from the screen may be a sacrifice we should be willing to take.
The movie, originally titled How To Catch a Monster, was pretty poorly received at the Cannes Film Festival last year but based off of this trailer, we are ready to throw the critic’s reviews out of the window. Lost River is about Billy (Christina Hendricks) a single mother of two who makes some tough choices to help her family survive while her teen son Bones (Iain De Caestecker) finds a road to an underwater town.
Check out the trailer below. A short clip for the film came out around Cannes time last year but this is the first major look.
The movie also stars Gosling’s beautiful and talented other half Eva Mendes and Saoirse Ronan. Plus, we are so amped up by the appearance of former Doctor Who Matt Smith who looks straight up unhinged in this trailer. We also can’t be the only people who are attracted to things on fire.
There are definitely hints of style in this film similar to two directors Gosling has worked with, Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives) and Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines). It is eerie, florescent, aggressive and moody.
Be sure to see the movie when it comes out in April. We can guarantee there will be nothing Gosling will be more charmed by when you finally go on your first date with him than saying you have seen Lost River.
